Do you already love snowshoeing or want to finally give it a go?

What we know is this in the current times.  People want to be outdoors.  They don’t necessary want to be in the crowds, and they don’t want to necessarily pay a season’s pass and wait in traffic to get to the local ski or snowboarding field. They just want to get out and about with a few friends, be active and get as much sweat up as they want (or not!) and discover cool places in the snow.

Keep your snowshoes in the boot and you can explore heaps of places at a whim! – whether you want to stroll along flatter terrains or at your local area as a beginner, or scale glaciers with more technical snowshoes,

2023 we have decided to focus on:

  • 4 key models – great bang for the buck for super good snowshoes for Kiwis who want it all – highly techical yet super-simple
  • suitability for a variety of shoe-sizes (each is very adaptable in shoe size so you can pass them around!) weight (2 sizes) and terrain you want to be on.

As the snow season has had a late start this year, we are keeping our sale prices till the end of the 2023 winter season so you can get on out there!

So what do people love about TSL snowshoes?

Shape:   Curved so it make for easier walking. (NOT like a duck!)

Straps: Each model has the ratchet system back strap (much like a snowboard so simple to get on and off with cold hands!) and the easy front strap or boa system – both with their advantages. the strap system lends itself pricewise, but also if, for example, you are using a larger snowboard boot.  The boa system – super simple pull and turn.

Lightweight:  Less that 1kg on your foot!  And if you put them in your backpack as you ski or snowboard down the mountain, easy!

Peace and quiet:  With a technical system that makes for quieter snowshoeing, you can really feel like you’re away from all the hustle and bustle in life!

Choices

  • Flexi – Symbioz Hyperflex Access
  • Composite (none flexi) Highlander – 2 models – Highlander Original with boa system or Highlander Access with strap system.

What are great questions to ask yourself to get the right pair of snowshoes?

  • What experience do I have already?  OK if you’re new or super advanced!  Different models for different needs.
  • What terrain / slopes do I want to go on?  If you’re in and around Wanaka we adore the Snow Farm.  The odd tramping club too has enthusiasts who know some local spots.  Tekapo/Mt Cook area alongside of the Remarkables, you could hire a guide to take you to some spectacular places.  Or put the snowshoes in your boot and you’ll have them when you come across snow.
  • What weight am I?  Good to consider what you also might be carrying.  2 sizes will cater for 99% of people.
  • What shoes/boots will I wear in them?  Good waterproof hiking boots are ideal.  If you are also snowboarding, choose the Access – Symbioz Hyperflex Access or Highlander Access.
  • How easy do I want it to be to get them on and off?  They’re all easy to get on and off.  Know straps to tie!
  • Do I need poles?  Yes we always recommend poles for stability.
  • Can I share them around?  Unlike skis that have to be specially fitted and personalised, snowshoes are adjustable in size so almost all of your family members and friends can borrow yours!  Saves you loads of money.
  • Can I hire snowshoes?  In Wanaka, Mt Outdoors is theh place to go?
  • Any snowshoeing tours I can go on?  If you’re in the Wanaka – Queenstown area, how about being in touch with Loz from Basecamp Wanaka?
